  • 2024 Tsinghua Medicine

    As an integrated system of medicine, education, and research, Tsinghua Medicine aims to enhance innovation, influence, and leadership in medical education, research, and services, benefiting a broad range of patients, populations, and society. Joined Tsinghua University in 2021, Prof. WongTien Yin, an internationally renowned ophthalmologist, and clinical scientist, a member of the Singapore National Academy of Science, and a foreign member of the US National Academy of Medicine, has served as the Senior Vice Chancellor since Tsinghua Medicine’s restructuring in 2023.

  • 2023 Restructuring Tsinghua Medicine(TM)

  • In June 2023, the University made the strategic decision to revamp the medical education and research enterprise at Tsinghua by establishing Tsinghua Medicine, a new entity of the health science ecosystem, that governs four component schools and 3 affiliated hospitals. Prof. Qi Hai served as the Dean of the School of Medicine from December 2020 to June 2023.

  • 2020 Establishment of Vanke School of Public Health

    Tsinghua University Vanke School of Public Health (SPH) was newly established in April 2020, Dr, Margaret Chan, the Former Director-General and Emeritus Director-General of the World Health Organization, is the founding Dean of the School. The establishment of the School is a historic milestone for Tsinghua University, as it actively undertakes its mission to shoulder the responsibility of addressing national and global challenges, development priorities, and needs. lt is also a timely disciplinary response to major global public health issues.

  • 2016 Establishment of School of Clinical Medicine

    Established in 2016, the School of Clinical Medicine is led by the founding Dean Prof. Dong Jiahong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a world-renowned hepatobiliary surgeon. To support the Healthy China initiative and improve human health, the school integrates medical education, medical service, and medical research as the trio of its core missions. The school's primary goal is to nurture exceptional doctors and medical scientists. Drawing on the cutting-edge practices of medical education worldwide, the school is dedicated to creating an innovative medical education model with Tsinghua's vision of shaping values, building capacities, and disseminating knowledge.

  • Prof. Dong Chen served as the Dean of the School of Medicine from September 2016 to August 2020.

  • 2015 Establishment of School of Pharmaceutical Sciences

    To better meet the development needs of pharmacy as a discipline, the university decided further to establish the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences(SPS). On December 25, 2015, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences was formally established, and Prof. Ding Sheng was appointed as the first Dean from December 2015 to June 2022.

  • 2014 Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital started operations

    Beijing Tsinghua Changqung Hospital (BTCH) officially opened on November 28th, 2014. The first President was Prof. Dong Jiahong.

  • 2012 Establishment Of Dept.of Basic Medical Sciences, Dept.of Pharmaceutical Sciences
    Establishment of Institute for Hospital Management

  • In January 2012, the university decided to establish the Department of Basic Medical Sciences and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Prof. Zhang Linqi was the first Dean of the Department of Basic Medical Sciences. In November of the same year, the opening ceremony of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences was held, with Prof. Liu Gang as the Dean.

  • The Institute for Hospital Management of Tsinghua University was established in 2012. It is the first professional in China to engage in hospital management research and cultivate modern hospital management talents established by Tsinghua University. Prof. Huang Jiefu, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Public Health, becomes the first president.

  • 2003 The First Hospital of Tsinghua University and Yuquan Hospital merged into Tsinghua University

  • The First Hospital of Tsinghua University was founded in February 1959. It was originally a hospital directly under the Ministry of Information Industry. In April 2003, it was transferred and became The First Hospital of Tsinghua University. It is a three-level comprehensive hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, and preventive health care. The first president was Prof. Chen Mingzhe.

  • Tsinghua University Yuquan Hospital was originally Beijing Yuquan Hospital (402 Hospital of the Ministry of Electronics Industry). It was officially opened in December 1983. In April 2003, the hospital was transferred to Tsinghua University and renamed Tsinghua University Yuquan Hospital. The first president was professor Zuo Huancong.

  • 2001 Establishment of the School of Medicine
    Establishment of Dept. of Biomedical Engineering

  • After the establishment of the School of Medicine in 2001, the discipline of biomedical engineering was transferred to the School of Medicine, and the Department of Biomedical Engineering was established. The first Dean was Prof. Wang Xiaoqin.

  • Tsinghua University School of Medicine was founded in October 2001. Prof. Wu Jieping, an internationally renowned urologist and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering served as the first Dean. Biophysicist Prof. Zhao Nanming, Structural Biologist Prof. Shi Yigong, Neurobiologist Prof. Lu Bai, and Immunologist Prof. Dong Chen subsequently held the helm as the Executive Vice Dean.
