(By Urology)Recently, the Department of Urology of Tsinghua University affiliated Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital (BTCH) was conferred the training base of the International Endourology Society (IES) for continuing education. After the accreditation, international trainees can undertake their training program in the Department of Urology of BTCH and received the qualified certificates issued by IES.
IES was founded in 1983 and was constituted by international urologists who were committed to promote new concepts, techniques and methods in urology and to accelerate the development of minimally invasive urology in the world. The IES is of significant impact in the area of Urology.
The Department of Urology led by the director, Dr. Jianxing Li, applies minimally invasive approached to treat urological stones, tumors, infections and other urological diseases. They use the technique of "ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL)” to treat various types of urolithiasis, and lead in the world in respect of disease complexity and difficulty, operation volume and successful rate. Just within 4 years since its establishment, the Department of Urology was included in the "2017 Top 100 Hospital Science and Technology Impact List of China " and ranked top 100 in "2018 (2017) Hospital Science and Technology Value List of China" released by the Institute of Medical Information of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Jianxing Li, was invited to give lectures and operative demonstration in the United States, Europe and South Africa for many times. The department also host the first training program of the European Society of Urology Endoscopy in China. BTCH's unique minimally invasive urological technique has been widely recognized by the international urological community. And the hospital attracts worldwide urologists to join the training program of PCNL every year, amongst which including the senior surgeons or even departmental administrators from the University of California San Francisco, Providence Tarzana Medical Center in US, San Raffaele Turro Hospital in Milan, Italy, Far East University in the Philippines, and Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Israel.

The official website of International Endourology Society has released the recruitment information for overseas urologists training program in Department of Urology at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital. This program will take one year for training in endourology, lithiasis treatment, and advanced laparoscopy. The Department of Urology of BTCH performs approximately 2,000 X-ray-free endourological operations, and trainees will have the opportunity to participate in the therapeutic strategies for complicated cases such as stones in solitary kidney, horseshoe kidney, double side kidneys, spinal deformity kidney, and ectopic kidney patients, as well as in pediatric and renal transplatation patients. The clinical training will consist of daily rounds, lectures and demonstrations for techniques in urolithiasis treatment, endourologic techniques, ultrasound-guided percutaneous puncture technique, laparoscopic surgery, X-ray-free flexible ureteroscopy and the operation of Holmium laser removal of prostate (HoLEP). The program also provide simulators and standard models for ultrasound-guided PCNL and flexible ureteroscopy.

In addition, the Department of Urology of BTCH is conducting basic and clinical research in collaboration with the American Urology Center. The trainees will be assigned to multiple research projects. And they will also have opportunity to practice basic and clinical research, in respective of project conception, drafting of research proposal, data collection, statistical analysis and scientific writing.
