Established in 2016, the School of Clinical Medicine is led by the Founding Dean Prof. Jiahong DONG, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a world-renowned hepatobiliary surgeon. To support the Healthy China Initiative and improve human health, the School integrates medical education, medical service, and medical research as the trio of its core missions. The school’s primary goal is to nurture exceptional doctors and medical scientists. Drawing on the cutting-edge practices of medical education worldwide, the school is dedicated to creating an innovative medical education model with Tsinghua’s vision of shaping values, building capacities, and disseminating knowledge.
To act on the Healthy China Initiative and the Healthy China 2030 Action Plan, and in conjunction with Tsinghua University’s Double First-Class Initiative (a MOE plan to develop first-class universities and first-class disciplines), the School has launched the Tsinghua Innovation Medicine and Education (known as the TIME Program). Geared toward fostering outstanding medical talents, the TIME program works to renew the developmental strategies, patterns, and roadmap of clinical medicine, and synchronizes the development of medical service, education, and research. It aims to create an exceptional clinical medical system up to international standards and with unique Chinese and Tsinghua characteristics.
To keep pace with the cutting-edge research and educational need, the school introduced the Administrative Measures for Faculty Recruitment and Appointment to attract and grow world-leading faculty and researchers. It considers the inherent complexity of clinical medicine as a discipline and its industrial characteristics. It is also the first of its kind in China that allows clinical educators to differentiate their academic careers and evaluation standards. As such, this set of measures will contribute immensely to creating a high-caliber team of clinical talents and developing globally renowned disciplines, which are the foundation of building up a farsighted, surefooted, and people-oriented medical education at Tsinghua.
The School of Clinical Medicine will focus on disciplines including hepatobiliary and pancreatic research, cardiovascular research, gastroenterology, neurology, oncology, organ transplantation, emergency and critical care, geriatrics, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western Medicine. It strives for breakthroughs in key areas such as intelligent healthcare consortiums, precision medicine for liver cancer, life monitoring and support systems, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, organ transplantation, neuroscience, digitization of healthcare, precision surgery, and systemic oncology.
Based on its vast expertise and with the School of Clinical Medicine as the core, Tsinghua University has established the Institute of Precision Medicine, Institute of Smart Healthcare, and Institute of Organ Transplantation and Bionic Medicine. These interdisciplinary collaborations and platforms have brought about remarkable achievements.
The School of Clinical Medicine cordially invites high-caliber medical experts from China and abroad to join it. We will develop a world-class medical center with innovative healthcare services, build up a supportive environment for doctors with faculty appointments and medical talents with a multidisciplinary background, and navigate medical innovation and frontier technological application. We will jointly fulfill the mission of creating, applying, and promoting a medical system of excellence, engage in serving the Healthy China Initiative, and contribute to bettering the well-being of mankind.
To serve Health China Initiative and enhance the well-being of mankind.
