I. Discipline Introduction
The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences equips students with foundational theories, essential knowledge, and research skills in Pharmaceutical Sciences, preparing them to become innovative talents in biomedical research or leaders in the pharmaceutical industry and government positions. Undergraduate students in the pharmaceutical sciences primarily focus on studying the core theories of pharmaceutical sciences, undergoing basic training in pharmaceutical research methods and skills, and developing the abilities necessary for innovative biomedical research.
II. Faculty for Undergraduate Education
The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences boasts a vibrant and energetic faculty, with over 90% being outstanding young and middle-aged scientists with international education backgrounds. Currently, the school has established a faculty of 33 tenure-track professors, 4 research professors, 1 lecturer, and 1 engineer. The majority of tenure-track professors have been honored with national-level awards, including “National Excellent Youth Fund” and “The Changjiang Scholar”. Eighty percent of the faculty members are involved in conducting undergraduate teaching responsibilities.
III. Undergraduate Training Objectives
Undergraduate education at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers students a robust foundation in fundamental knowledge, exceptional professional skills, comprehensive experimental training, and extensive international exchange opportunities. The goal is to cultivate and nurture leading talents in innovative drug research and development.
IV. Innovative Undergraduate Education
In the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, we focus on nurturing a small scale of students but invest heavily in their education. Our approach emphasizes the integration of multidisciplinary knowledge in medicine, biology, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, engineering, and data science. Furthermore, our emphasis lies in developing students' analytical prowess, practical competencies, and innovative potential through both domestic and international research practices. We are dedicated to cultivating a new generation of academic and industrial leaders with visions and expertise in pharmaceutical sciences.
1. Broad Foundation
We create a multidisciplinary course system to train innovative and interdisciplinary talents. We streamline our curriculum by reducing compulsory courses and increasing electives and practical courses, optimizing knowledge structure, and encouraging personalized development.
2. High-Quality Education
We develop a curriculum system rooted in general education, progressively incorporating professional education. We establish course modules that bridge undergraduate and graduate studies, ensuring a seamless transition from undergraduate to doctoral education, preparing the students for in-depth research and practical application in their chosen fields. With a near 2:1 teacher-student ratio, we deliver high-quality, small class instruction.
3. Emphasis on Practice
We established a practical training system encompassing four advanced stages: understanding, practice, enhancment, and comprehensive training. This system leverages high-level scientific research platforms and integrates classroom instruction, experimental techniques, extracurricular activities, and research training. The goal is to enhance students' research literacy and capabilities, establishing a solid foundation for their graduate-level research work.
4. International Exchange
We establish extensive platforms for school-level and department-level overseas practices and exchanges, including InSPIRE International Student Overseas Research Program, overseas summer research, overseas comprehensive thesis training, and other overseas exchange activities, so as to cultivate students’ international perspective and global competence.
V. Undergraduate Future Pathways
The undergraduate education in pharmaceutical sciences lasts for 4 years. Students who meet the graduation requirements are granted a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences. Excellent undergraduates may be recommended for graduate studies at Tsinghua University or other domestic universities without examination, apply to renowned foreign universities, or pursue their careers. Recently, most students have chosen to pursue Ph.D. studies at domestic or international universities or research institutions. These prestigious institutions include Harvard University, Yale University, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Michigan, Scripps Research Institute, University of California, San Francisco, University of California, San Diego, Dartmouth College, Columbia University, University of North Carolina, University of Washington, University of Pittsburgh, University of Southern California, and The University of Melbourne.
