Harvard Medical School has made significant contributions to the advancement of human medicine and created many firsts in the world in medical history: the invention and application of a vaccine for poliovirus, artificial respirators, visual brain mapping, the application of ether anesthesia, external pacemakers, kidney transplantation, and heart valve surgery etc.
